How Do You Celebrate Yours...?

[Index]  [Previous]  [Next]

Throughout Europe, and indeed throughout the world, Christmas customs are many and varied. Now that people travel more widely, and many families have relatives and friends of different nationalities, we are all becoming more aware of this diversity. But the REAL meaning of Christmas remains the same.

Christmas is the time when people remember that God Himself stepped into human history and sent His only Son, Jesus, to planet earth. Jesus came as a human baby. As He grew up He experienced the same joys and trials that we face in our every day lives. He was tempted just as we are but, unlike us, He never sinned, and because of His perfect life He was  able to pay for our sins when He died on the cross.

Most people have a sense of wonder and delight at the birth of a new baby, and they enjoy remembering Baby Jesus at Christmas time. Sadly, however, many people wrap Him up when Christmas is over and put Him away until the next year, just as the Norwegians do with their special Christmas crockery.

Do you see Jesus as just a baby to be brought out for a few days at Christmas time, but to be kept hidden away and neglected for the rest of the year?

In England we hang our Christmas gifts on brightly decorated trees. Jesus, the greatest gift of all, was also hung on a tree, --- not a beautiful tree, but a rough, cruel Roman cross. There He died instead of us.

This Christmas accept the forgiveness and new life Jesus offers. Then you will have cause to celebrate every day.
