The BibleWho wrote it? God is the author but He used 40 people to write the 66 books in the Bible over a period of 1500 years. Although the writers ranged from fishermen to kings their individual contributions fit together perfectly confirming that it is God's book. Over 600 events have been predicted in the Bible. Many of these have already occurred - none have been disproved. Translation The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The Bible(or parts of it) has been translated into around 2000 languages. John Wycliffe was the first to translate the Bible into English in 1382 to make it available for everyone to read. William Carey, who lived in the eighteenth century, amazingly translated certain parts of the Bible into 24 different languages. What is its Message? God loves each one of us and wants us to know and love Him. Since the first sin was committed by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, no-one meets God's standard and so we cannot have a relationship with Him. However God loves us so much that He sent his own perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to die and suffer the punishment that we deserve. Because He did this, our sin can be forgiven and we can become part of God's family. Is the Bible relevant today? Christians believe that it is! Why not read it for your self, a good place to start is Mark’s gospel.
Did you know...? ...In 1529 William Tyndale was having Bibles printed secretly in ...Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, supposed to have burned the cakes, spent half of his reign fighting the Danes and the other half restoring the church and translating the Bible so that his people could have God’s Word in their own language. ...The Wycliffe Bible Translators hope to have commenced translating the Bible into the last remaining languages of the world by the year 2025. |
