Who said it and what do they have in common?(A)“It's better to burn out than to fade away” (B)“Purple haze is in my brain, Lately things don't seem the same” (C)“I'd like to be a queen in people's hearts” (E)“Non, je ne regrette rien” [tr. I don't regret a thing] (D)“We're more popular than Jesus now” (F)“I ain't no saint but I've tried never to do anything that would hurt my family or offend God” (G)“I want to be a big star more than anything” You can check how many you got right at the bottom of the page. As to what these celebrities have in common, hopefully you realised that they are all dead (yes, even Elvis...). But what do you and I have in common with them? Well, if nothing else, the fact that one day we will die too. Most of us, when our final moment comes, are unlikely to be thinking, “I wish I had spent more time at the office”, but there will inevitably be regrets for quarrels unresolved, missed opportunities, and perhaps even undeclared love. How different the last recorded words of Jesus Christ, “IT IS FINISHED”. No regrets. Everything completed. He lived a perfect life, demonstrating both by what He did and by what He said that He was without a doubt God's Son in human form. He willingly took the punishment deserved by us for the sins and wrong in our lives, which have separated us from God. Having finished what He had come to do, He bowed His head and died. Fully in control. No “purple haze”. No “burn out”. No “fade away”. God was clearly satisfied that His Son had finished what He sent Him to do because three days later, on that first Easter Sunday, He raised Jesus from the dead never to die again! “IT IS FINISHED”. Nothing therefore left for us to do, nothing we can add to what was done, nothing that we can improve on. SO WHAT? Well, contrary to popular belief, death is not the end of our existence, merely the end of life as we know it and the gateway to eternity. Furthermore, the Bible states categorically, “After death the judgement”. If you want to avoid God's judgement of your sin, which will keep you out of heaven forever, you have to realise that you are a sinner and need His forgiveness. And how can He forgive you without compromising His absolute righteousness and holiness? Simply because when Jesus said, “IT IS FINISHED”, He had taken the punishment for your sins, all of your sins, and as far as God is concerned, when He forgives you, they are finished! Have you asked God to forgive you?
